The history of PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk (BSP) began with the establishment of a rubber plantation in 1911, named NV Hollandsch Amerikaanse Plantage Maatschapij. In 1986, PT Bakrie & Brothers acquired its shares and changed its name to Uniroyal Sumatra Plantations. In March 1990, the Company went public at the Jakarta Stock Exchange (now Indonesia Stock Exhange), and in 1992 changed its name to PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk. In 1990, Bakrie Sumatera Plantations began expanding into the palm oil business by establishing Greenfield projects, as well as acquiring mature plantations. By the end of 2008, BSP manages a total estate area of approximately 90,643 ha of palm oil (including ARBV) and 18,827 ha of rubber. Its production facilities consist of palm oil mills with a total capacity of 390 tons FFB/hour (including ARBV) and rubber processing plants with a combined capacity of around 81,340 tpa.
